Cubby’s Cool Winter Wellness Tips
Stay Hydrated — Even When It’s Cold!
Brrrr! It’s getting colder outside – winter is on the way for sure! Before you jump into the winter fun, remember your body needs water even when it’s chilly outside. When you’re playing in the snow, you might not feel thirsty like you do in summer, but your body is still working hard and needs fluids.
Try warming up with:
- Water — it’s always the best choice!
- Warm herbal tea with a little honey
- Hot cocoa made with milk (Yum!)
- Warm apple cider
Enjoy Winter Safely
Don’t eat snow! Snow can contain dirt, pollution and germs you can’t see.
Snowball safety: Keep snowballs soft and fluffy, never throw at faces and never put ice or rocks inside.
Keep warm: Dress in layers, wear waterproof mittens and a hat. Take warm-up breaks every 30 to 45 minutes.
When to come inside: If your fingers or toes feel numb and tingly, if you’re shivering and can’t stop or if your clothes are wet — it’s time to come inside and warm up!
Snow fort dangers: Build snow forts away from roads and driveways. Never dig tunnels or make forts that could collapse on you. Always let a grown-up know where you’re playing.
Cubby’s Challenge: Drink a full glass of water before playing outside, then have warm drinks when you come in for breaks. Your body will thank you!
Come Say “Hi”!
